Learning outcomes

  • Design a location hierarchy that keeps districts comparable without erasing store quirks.
  • Encode exceptions so late data does not masquerade as healthy performance.
  • Facilitate a 20-minute pulse critique using a shared checklist.
  • Document metric ownership so visual changes require a named steward.

Modules

Module 1 — Signal inventory

Catalog every feed feeding your Monday pack and mark which ones arrive after decisions are already made.

Module 2 — Pulse canvas

Compose a board that balances portfolio health with drill-ready branch cards.

Module 3 — Exception ladders

Define who acts when a metric stays red across one, two, or three windows.

Module 4 — Narrative scraps

Write short captions that travel with screenshots into chat without rewriting the data.

Module 5 — Live critique lab

Stress-test boards with injected missing rows and conflicting region definitions.

Learner notes

The exception ladder template alone cut our Slack threads about “which screenshot is latest.” I still want a deeper SQL companion track, but the visual side is finally teachable to new shift leads.

Module 5’s missing-feed drill mirrored our real Penang lag. We now label stale tiles instead of pretending the map is live.

FAQ

Do I need a specific BI tool?

No. Exercises use tool-agnostic canvases. You can rebuild in Power BI, Looker Studio, Tableau, or even a carefully structured spreadsheet.

What is a real limitation of this course?

We do not teach data-pipeline engineering. If your extracts are broken for weeks, this studio will improve how you communicate the breakage—but it will not repair the warehouse jobs themselves.

Is there a cohort or only self-paced?

Materials are self-paced. Critique windows run twice monthly in Malaysia evening slots; recordings stay available for four weeks.

Can finance and ops join together?

Yes—pairs often finish faster because metric ownership debates happen inside the modules instead of after launch.
